The 5th Asia Pacific Bonsai and Suiseki Exhibition and Convention was held in Taipei in 1999 right after a big earthquake shook the island of Formosa. Even so, the guests were many and the Bonsai, Suiseki, and Antique Pots were of a very high quality standard.

The theme of the convention was "Oriental Passion ’99 Taipei", and was organised and held by The Bonsai Associated, Taiwan. This was chosen as the venue for the 5th ASPAC because of the great interest from the many enthusiasts in Taiwan. The Bonsai movement has spread all over Taiwan and Bonsai enthusiasts there had been anxious to hold the convention for many years.
