Japanese Sago Palm - Cycas revoluta![]() This dieocious native of southern Japan, China and the Ryukyu Islands (where they are sometimes grown as Bonsai) is a primitive plant, dating to the Mesozoic era. They grow very slowly, but require little care other than to remove dead leaves. They are a prominent feature of temple gardens in southern Japan (particularly Kyûshû), particularly along the coast, but when wrapped for the winter, they can also be grown in colder climes (there is an example at Katsura Imperial Villa in Kyôto.
